Poker Room
With some current problems going on at pokerroom.com, we recommend you play at pokerstars.com instead.
Background:
PokerRoom has been on the web since 1999 and has dealt over 15 million hands. PokerRoom.com has been accredited with the eCOGRA seal of approval, which means that eCOGRA states that the games are fair, that they operate honestly and behave responsibly, that monetary deposits are safe and that winnings are paid out in a timely manner. PokerRoom.com is a place for everybody – PC and Mac users alike. They are one of the very few sites that do not require you to download their software onto your computer. They use Java technology to quickly get you into the game. Pokerroom.com used to be a “play money” only site and they’ve always only offered Texas Holdem Poker. They first started offering “real money” games on August 25, 2001. Pokerroom is now offering blackjack and continues to upgrade their software to offer its players a wide range of goodies. Pokerroom.com has constantly been upgrading and improving their software, and I believe they are a really great site for anyone who wants a good Texas Hold’em game.
Services:
Pokerroom.com is fairly good when it comes to their service. They do most things well but do have a few hitches. Pokerroom.com has a live hosts to help you if you have an immediate problem. Having a host is a huge bonus when looking for a good online poker site because you can talk to someone who works for the site at any time, 24 hours a day. Pokerroom.com has a secure deposit system with the standard encryption system so no one can steal your personal information. I don’t want to get into all the technical stuff but I guarantee you can be at ease when depositing money at pokerroom.com. Their cash-out system is comparable with other sites. They offer free cash-outs to any neteller, paypal, or major credit cards. They also offer free cash-outs via regular mail. They’ll send you a check for any amount under $1000 via regular mail, for free. If you cash-out over $1000, they UPS it to you for free and it should arrive in 2 days or less. You also have the choice to ask for a UPS delivery of a check under $1000 but it will cost you $30. Pokerroom.com also offers hand history so you can see how you’re playing, and where your making you’re money. They also tell you where each player is from in the world in the lobby of their site. Like many other sites, pokerroom.com allows you to see how loose a game is by posting the average pot size at a given table and the percentage of people in on every flop. This is important information when trying to find a soft game.
Promotions:
Bonus Code tracking has not been working. You don’t need the promo code if you click on the banner. They have also added a player points system. You earn points for the real money hands you play, and then redeem them for free entries in tournaments. They are now the leaders in giving away free money to their players. They give $555 away to the 5 players who accumulate the most player points. $305 to the winner, $100 to second and $50 to the other 3 spots. They also have a player point tournament on Saturdays where they give away $5000. The entry fee is only 1000 player points. They have no high hand or bad beat jackpots. They do have blackjack and baccarat for real money on their site, if you like that sort of thing. They also offer a free tournament each day where the winner receives $50. Unfortunately there is 800 people in the tournament so your chances of winning are slim. Pokerroom gives away free money to its new players, so go take advantage!
Game Play:
As I stated before, pokerroom.com is one of the few sites that don’t require you to download their software. This allows you to get into the game right away. They used to be real bad for losing connection to their site of the game freezing up mid hand, but now they seem to have everything under control. They occasionally have problems with their tournaments but their “real money” and “play money” tables are working perfectly fine with quick connections. Pokerroom.com doesn’t have much of a lobby but that doesn’t matter because it is easy to navigate your way around to find a table you like. The graphics at the table are some of the best on the net. You can’t chose what your character will look like, but each seat at the table displays a different character so there is some choice. The table graphics are in the top 3 of all online poker rooms. Your cards are easy to see and there is an option to have “Big Cards” on to help those of us who have been looking into a computer screen for too long. Instructions at the table are easy to comprehend and the action buttons are straight forward and to the point. It is easy to see how much money any of your opponents have along with your own stack of chips. The pot size is also clearly visible for you at the bottom of the table screen. It is easy to turn player chats of and on to keep anoying players from bothering you. All in all the game play at pokerroom.com is exceptional.
Games:
Pokerroom has now added Omaha and 7 card stud along with the Texas Holdem they always offered. If you want to play for “real money”, they offer tables ranging in stakes from $1-$2 to $25-$50. They have play money tables that go all the way up to $1-$200. Pokerroom.com has 10 man tables along with 5 man and 2 man (heads up) tables. Their “real money” tournaments are getting better all the time. They have plenty of 10 man tournaments going around the clock with buy-ins from $5 to $100. They also have multi-player tournaments everyday with a buy-in of $22, where the winner usually gets over $1000. They have really improved their online poker room and it is now a great place to go play.
Players:
Pokerroom.com has a growing client base. I’ve seen them grow probably 200% since I started playing there. On any given night they have a few hundred people playing on their site. There are usually plenty of low limit “real money” tables going 24 hours a day. You can usually count on at least one $5-$10 or $10-$20 table going most of the day but there is no 24 hour high limit action like on some other sites. I have found that the players at pokerroom.com are some of the loosest on the net. This is good if you’re a quality poker player because you can take advantage of the poorer players and make some good cash. Most players at pokerroom.com are friendly and I’ve never experienced any problems from other players while playing there. Overall, pokerroom.com is a good place to make some real money.
