Cake Poker Review
Overview:
Since launching in 2006 Cake hasn’t had ample time to really prove itself in the online poker market. However, they have done the complete opposite and have established themselves as a solid poker room. In the last 2-3 years they have grown to 5500+ players at any given time and are constantly growing. They offer some pretty good tournaments with hefty payouts. Combine that with a healthy deposit bonus and an incentive program for their players, and you have a great room with a lot of potential.
Games:
Cake Poker is another victim of being rather new to online poker, hence lack of traffic. They have a great program but not enough people know about it. So the game of 7 card stud is unavailable at this time. And higher stakes games lack players a little bit also. But if you’re OK with playing No-Limit Hold Em’ or Omaha, then you are in luck. Cake poker is earning some clout in the ring game arena with their $500/$1000 Omaha ring games and HLHE games. For those who prefer lower stakes, .02/.04 is available. Cake Poker also offers tournaments with guaranteed payouts of $100,000 on Sundays with high rankings recorded to Card Player. 1 Sunday a month they do offer a bigger 250k tourney. From what we’ve seen, Cake also offers quite a few Re-buy/Add On tourneys as well.
Software:
There software isn’t as bright or colorful as some rooms, but it’s very realistic and offers many choices of human avatars. You can chose from a women in a tank top to someone in a hooded sweatshirt and glasses. It’s all up to you. The note taking section is pretty good allowing you to rate a player by color. Pretty handy versus taking a bunch of notes. You can also change the background, chat options, and switch to a 4 color deck for easy viewing. The one thing that seemed to be lacking though is the convenience of more bet buttons such as ¼,½, or ¾ pot bets.
Players:
Like most rooms you find, you will find an assortment of the good, bad, and the fishy smelling players. From looking at their numbers, it’s pretty average. Going up in stakes you will generally see a flop 25% or less of the time at a 10 handed table. Pretty decent competition. As you go down in stakes you will see a flop almost 2-3x as much. You will also see a lack of players in higher stakes as well as none in Stud as it is not currently available.
Bonuses:
Cake poker also offers a pretty substantial bonus for being rather new. They offer new players a 110% match up to $600. The bonus is released in $10 increments and you will have a special box on your screen that tells you how many you need to release the next installment of your bonus. Earning FPP’s is pretty easy however, as Cake Poker feels that you should receive a penny for every penny you spend. Therefore if you have $1 in rake, you will receive 1 FPP. Pretty sweet deal. You will get 7 FPP’s for every $1 spent in tournaments. They also have a great “gold card” system that can enter you into tourneys, win daily lotteries, or even big Jackpots.
Deposit Options:
Visa, MasterCard, Diners Club International, NETeller, moneybookers, paysafecard, ECO, Use My Wallet, eWalletXpress, Visa Electron, and Delta. Please take a look at Cake Poker for country specific deposit options.
Summary:
For those who enjoy Texas Hold ‘Em and Omaha, this is a pretty good room to check out. They provide a pretty big deposit bonus for new players and freerolls every few hours with small fields of players. And if you are tired of playing cash games at the “other” guys, then this is definitely the next up and coming poker room for high stakes ring games. So if you like to have your Cake and eat it too, do yourself a favor and check out Cake Poker.
